Start Using Your Trezor® Device Safely and Securely
Whether you're setting up your Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T, this guide will walk you through the simple and secure steps to get started.
✅ Step 1: Go to Trezor.io/Start
This is the official starting point to set up your Trezor. Make sure you're using the correct URL to avoid phishing websites.
🛠️ Step 2: Install Trezor Suite
Trezor Suite is the official desktop app used to manage your crypto securely.
- Download it from trezor.io/trezor-suite
- Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Follow on-screen instructions to install
🔌 Step 3: Connect Your Trezor Device
- Plug your Trezor into your computer via USB.
- Open Trezor Suite — it will detect your device and prompt the next steps.
📥 Step 4: Install Firmware
If your Trezor is brand new, it won’t have firmware installed yet.
- Trezor Suite will ask to install the latest official firmware.
- Confirm the action on your device screen.
⚠️ Security tip: If your Trezor arrives with firmware already installed, do not use it — it may be compromised. Only install firmware through Trezor Suite.
🆔 Step 5: Create a New Wallet
- Once firmware is installed, you’ll be asked to create a new wallet.
- Choose "Create New Wallet" and follow the prompts.
📝 Step 6: Back Up Your Recovery Seed
Your recovery seed is a 12 or 24-word phrase that can recover your wallet if your device is lost or damaged.
- Write the words down on paper only — never store digitally.
- Store the paper securely in a fireproof and waterproof place.
- Trezor will show the seed only once — never share it.
🔒 Step 7: Set Up a PIN
- Choose a strong PIN to protect access to your Trezor.
- You’ll use this PIN each time you connect your device.
🧪 Optional: Enable Passphrase Protection
For advanced security, you can enable passphrase protection.
- This adds a custom word or phrase that acts as an additional layer of encryption.
- Without the exact phrase, even your recovery seed can’t restore the wallet.
🚀 You're Ready to Use Your Trezor!
Now that your Trezor is set up, you can:
- Send and receive crypto
- Manage assets across multiple blockchains
- Connect to decentralized apps (dApps) via third-party tools
